If you are going to a new place, sitting in your room or going around in a tour bus, get up on your foot and walk around a little. This is the only way to get the real flavor, the real feel of the place. So if you go a new city, make sure that you go out on walking tour, with a guide or on your own. If you have a MP3 player, you can easily download self-guided tours, just plug it in, and walk around without having to go through the hassle of flipping through your guidebook every few minutes.

You will be able to explore the place closely if you are on foot. You can also stop as and when something catches you fancy, a quaint coffee shop for example. You can talk to the local people, learn new things about the place, and have a much more intimate experience.

There are different kinds of walking tours, with different points of focus. Like you can go through the New York City walking tours on a food tour, photography or museum tour, whatever suits your taste. This way you can do what you enjoy most. There is a ghost tour in the Savannas for the really adventurous, for example. On photography tours, you can not only learn something new and useful but also make your trip memorable through timeless pictures.

Some other adventure tours like looking for Jack the Ripper in London, ghost trails in New Orleans are widely popular.

Walking around will also help you cut down your budget. Even in the city of New York, which is supposed to be the most expensive city in the world, you can go around on meager expenditure if you don’t mind doing long distance walking. Walking through the city will also allow you to get the best deals on things you want to buy. One thing to be careful about though is that you need to an extensive background check about the place, popular destinations, shops, and emergency contacts like hospitals or police stations.

The most popular walking tours will take you through China Town and Little Italy. For movie buffs, there are themed tours like Sex and City, Gangs of New York and even Friends tours. Travel operators, all over the city, organize these tours.

Even in London, you can take a tour, which takes you to places that inspired Harry Potter or the Da Vinci code trail in Paris.

Some people make the most of food-related tours, which work around specific delicacies in any region—the pasta tour in Italy for example or chocolate tours in New York and Paris.

But besides these major cities, there are walking tours for the countryside too. In these tours, you are transported from one place to another and you explore these places on foot. They take you to unconventional places where you can see the real heart of the country, up close. These tours are one to two weeks long, and are conducted in various parts of Asia, Africa, and Europe.

You may be planning a once in a lifetime trip or just a couple of days in the country, which ever it is it is useful to master the art of rucksack packing. Since you can fit a lot in a rucksack it is important to have some order in the contents. Items which you may need during the day should be at the top, and the whole rucksack should be packed with comfort in mind. Since rucksacks are quite large and you can fit a lot into them, it does not mean that you have to take the kitchen sink. If however, you are determined to take everything you could possibly need, then rucksack packing is even more important for you. If you are not sure what to pack a good technique is to imagine your trip and then you will be able to see what you think you will need.

Do not start to pack your rucksack until you've first decided on all the items you are planning to take. Once you have collected together everything you think you will need you should then lay them all out and then put to one side any which are ‘would like’ items rather than necessary. Successful rucksack packing is being able understanding what to pack. Some things are essential and cannot be skimped on, such as; snacks, waterproofs, food and spare clothing. A book, which can be heavy and space hungry, will probably not be read, at the end of the day you will probably snuggle happily in bed and sleep like a baby after all the healthy fresh air in your lungs – it is unlikely that you will be reading to help you doze off. When you choose your rucksack in the shop, it probably seemed very large and impossible to fill. Don’t kid your self, it will fill up fast and you will soon understand the importance of rucksack packing.

When you are carrying your rucksack, if you have packed the heavy items at the top, you will move your center of mass and this will affect your balance. The heaviest items should be at the bottom of the rucksack and the lighter ones at the top. This means that the heavier items will be around your lower back, this is strong and close to your center of mass.If you put the heavier items at the top, they'd be constantly pulling on your shoulders. It's always a good idea to keep a couple of soft smallish item to use as padding, you don't want anything hard against your back. Also, if you have several hard items to pack it is useful to put some clothing in between them as any knocking together or clanking will be very irritating. Remember that comfort is at least as important as content.

Before you pack anything you should consider what you may need en route. Almost all rucksacks have a pocket which is easily accessible. This should be packed with the ‘en route’ items.Think to leave some space in it as there are bound to be a couple of last minuet items such as keys and wallet.

Finally, we hope that you have good weather and a great trip. Most manufacturers will tell you that there rucksacks are waterproof, but this is not something you should rely on. As a precaution it is a good idea to make sure that all your spare clothes are not near the outside. If caught in a bad storm, you don’t want to find that your spare clothing is now damp!

You are now ready to go. Have fun and be prepared.

Planning an Itinerary to Rome can be difficult if you are unsure of what to visit: sometimes it’s better to take a Rome Tour. This article gives some insight to some must places of Rome, the so called “Eternal City”.

Must see places in Rome:

Santa Susanna
The baroque in its most comely form: the two little churches tell their history through the work of two great artists: Carlo Maderno and Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

Palazzo dei Conservatori
The frescoed room, the courtyard with its imposing statues, the pictures and the sculptures of the capitoline collection, make of this place one of the most interesting in Rome for history and culture.

Arco di Costantino
When Christianity become the official religion of the Roman Emperor by the will of Costantino, this triumphal arch was erected, the last example of an architecture destined to die togheter with the remains of the pagan age.

Castel Sant’Angelo
A perfect structure in its form and function, From the tomb of the Emperor Adriano to the Papal prison, rich in splendid pictoresque decorations and intersting museum relics.

Città del Vaticano
A State within a State, a city whithin a city. This is the small but precious Vatican Sate. The piazza is like a symbolic embrace to Christians, an enormous concave circle whih has welcomed the faithful for centuries with the same emphasis carried out by the Popes of the Baroque.

Check on our site Reserver.it a wide selection of the best hotels in Rome, Rome bed and breakfast, guests houses and apartments with the best Deals for accommodations in Rome, listed by area and providing rates and online secure reservation.

Matera is the city of the “Sassi” the charming ancient districts, which are an example of a unique and complex urban structure and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Matera is also host to over 100 rock churches, a testimony of the Greek-Byzantine Monastic civilizations which held a significant influence. It is the city of art and folklore, and is considered to be among one of the most ancient settlements in the world due to it being continuously inhabited by man, dating as far back as the Palaeolithic era. It is precisely in this ruprestian habitat in Matera’s famous Sassi that the enchanting Hotel Sant’Angelo was created.

The hotel is the result of painstaking preservation and renovation of over 1400 square meters including cave dwellings, pathways, stairways and courtyards. Matera Hotel Sant’Angelo is able to accommodate up to 45 guests distributed into 16 historical dwellings. We offer our guests a number of services for an unforgettable stay including: a restaurant with a warm rustic atmosphere perfect for enjoying the local lucanian specialties, two bars, furnished panoramic terraces, leisure halls, and an art gallery.

Reception is located on the ground floor, the entrance is from the common courtyard. Realized in a hypogeum area carved from the rock, external wall in the front area made from rough tufa walling, hypogeum ceilings with roman arches, and one pointed arch in the partition area between the entrance and the library; the atmosphere is covered in “Apricena” stone flooring. The bathrooms are all tiled in stone. The furniture has been carefully chosen to create a classic and elegant atmosphere.

The restaurant is found on the top floor and is made up of two connecting halls, with two independent entrances with windows above the doors. The Matera Hotel’s halls entirely made from hypogeum, with few walls, in the front area made from rough tufa walling, and of “Apricena” stone, with plastered internal walls in the entrance area and rough tufa walling to the rear.

From the wide terraces and balconies you can admire a spectacular view like no other; Gravina Canyon’s stone walls have eroded in the past millenniums to create a deep and more charming than ever canyon.

All rooms are furnished with: private bath, telephone, satellite television, air conditioning, a safe and mini-bar. The Hotel layout is aligned in rows lending itself to a typical neighbourhood that overlooks courtyards and small town squares and are distributed onto different levels and connected by stairways and landings and retains all of the characteristics of the Sassi’s hypogeum houses. With both the front and the rear being carved from the tufa.
Each dwelling enjoys a spectacular panoramic view conveniently located along the city’s tourist itineraries. The accurate restoration and transformation of the pre-existing living environments, now richly equipped with modern technology and the complementary services are what makes Hotel Sant’Angelo in a class above all the rest
